Denn Santoro has been playing music since he was young and his parents decided he should learn accordion. Happily that didn’t stick! It was the ‘60s and everyone wanted to play a guitar and as an early teen Denn got his hands on one. He never looked back. Once he got to college he teamed up with a female singer/songwriter and played a bit in the local area coffee houses. During that period, unfortunately all but his 12 string were stolen. Having only a 12 string really changed his playing. He continued to play solo at coffee houses like Tryworks and the Hardware Café, various other open mics and the occasional bar or festival. He is a regular at the New Bedford Café Arpeggio and has played other current venues such as the New Wave Cafe, the Beal House and the Soule Homestead Joe Davies folk festival. While never a prolific songwriter, he mixes a few originals with covers of some of his favorites including John Prine, Neil Young, Al Stewart, Moody Blues, Dan Fogelberg, Country Joe and the Fish, The Kinks and others; often with his own take on the song. (Yes, he is all over the map, musically). As he puts it, “Hey, I’m not a musician. I’m just a guitar player.

Venues

Cafe Arpeggio, New Bedford A great small room that hosts weekly open mics (7 to 10 P.M. Thursday) and various local, national and international acts on Fridays. They also serve great food, coffees and deserts including home made ice cream. Cafe Arpeggio

New Bedford Summerfest New Bedford's Summerfest is a great festival held every year in the historic New Bedford National Park. It features great performers in both large and small, intimate settings and is both inexpensive and a wonderful family event. New Bedford Whaling Museum Concerts Through Time New Bedford's is an ongoing series of concerts in the in the historic New Bedford Whaling Museum. It features great performers in a small, lovely theater with great sound. The people who program this venue also program the summerfest and some of the Cafe Arpeggio Concerts. Barrel of Music

Soule Homestead This is a great summer venue. It has a weekly concert during July and August and also the annual Joe Davies Folk festival every September.

Dick Lewis Dick is a funny guy with a great voice and style. He's also a longtime member of the band Shananagans. His New CD, "Coastin' Through the Years" is a great mix of funny, poignant and just plain toe taping music. I recommend it highly. Dick Lewis

Lee Prince Lee has a mellow voice and a sharp wit that combine to make for great live performances. His CD Pencil Logic is a great mix of his originals and some old standards and I recommend it highly. Lee Prince
